About Face! provides in-school students ages 13 to 17 with key academic and life skills instruction that propels them to grade-level gains and healthy, responsible choices. Learners develop skills in areas of critical thinking, computer literacy, and personal responsibility.

about faceAbout Face! equips learners with essential strategies for enhancing their literacy and numeracy scores, completing their high school educations, and acquiring lasting life skills.

In a collaborative effort of Paxen Learning Corporation, the National Guard, the Departments of Labor (DOL), and Health and Human Services (HHS) About Face! has educated more than 31,000 at-risk youth since the program's inception in 1997. Offered both in year-round and summer sessions, the program employs a proprietary, real-world curriculum designed to engage and retain students' interest. Students in the program learn essential skills in key areas such as critical thinking, exploring careers, and banking and budgeting.

“I would recommend this program to everyone. I think it is one of the best programs to help prepare someone for life and its obstacles. If I could, I would love to come back and do it all over again.”

Our 15:1 student-to-teacher ratio allows for individualized and small-group instruction, which aids both program retention and outcomes. For example, students in About Face! who prepared for Florida's graduation test succeeded more than 90% of the time. Similarly, the program's engaging nature leads more than 90% of students who begin the program to complete it.

Today, About Face! has been successfully implemented in Florida, Hawaii and the District of Columbia. By their participation in the program, students develop skills that help them complete their high school educations and enter post-secondary institutions, training centers, or the workforce.
